Ingredients
This nourishing mixed berry smoothie is made using frozen fruit which helps to make it extra thick and creamy. It adds a little spinach for some natural vitamins and folate and also chia seeds for fiber and protein.
- Banana
- Mixed Berries
- Spinach
- Oat Milk
- Chia Seeds
See recipe card for quantities.
Instructions
- Start by freezing your banana and mixed berries. You can skip this step if you don't want it extra thick, cold, and creamy.
- When everything is frozen, toss the fruit into a high speed blender along with the spinach, chia seeds, and oat milk.
- Blend until nice and smooth. Then pour in a glass and enjoy!
Substitutions
The great thing about smoothies is how easy they are to modify and adapt to your own taste buds!
- Spinach - instead of spinach, you can use kale or another dark leafy green. Keep in mind, this may affect the taste and texture.
- Mixed Berries - don't like all the berries? Feel free to omit the blackberries or raspberries and add a little extra strawberries or blueberries instead.
- Oat Milk - don't have oat milk? Use your favorite plant-based milk like almond milk, hemp milk, macadamia milk, etc.
This recipe is vegan, gluten free, and refined sugar free as is. It's filled with nothing but clean, wholesome ingredients!
Variations
Switch things up and try adding some different flavors into the mix
- Tropical - add some pineapple or mango to make it a tropical fruit smoothie!
- Yogurt - use dairy-free yogurt or coconut cream instead of plant-based milk to make it even creamier
- Protein - add some protein powder for an added boost of energy
Equipment
It's important to use a quality high speed blender to have the perfect consistency and to get an even blend. It's not fun to get a big chunk of spinach when drinking your smoothie!
I use and highly recommend a Vitamix blender. It's a little pricey but well worth it, especially if you are using it every day. They are made to last! I used to have a Ninja and ended up going through two of them.
Storage
You can store leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days to enjoy at a later time. However, it will thicken up a bit in there and change the consistency. I recommend to enjoy it fresh!
You can also freeze leftovers by putting it in a freeze safe mason jar. Just take it out and let it defrost before drinking.
Or better yet, put your leftover smoothie into a popsicle mold and have a tasty ice-cold treat later!
